Centenary Action Convener, Professor Helen Pankhurst CBE, joined the first ever UK Parliament Women’s Caucus meeting organised by our member The Fawcett Society. The meeting was well attended, with approximately 64 women MPs present, to convene the first ever meeting in Westminster to officially establish a Women’s Caucus. At the meeting many issues were discussed, from the importance of cross-party participation in the Caucus, leadership, the importance of formal recognition of the caucus within UK Parliament, to themes and issues that could be explored by the Caucus, to the need to champion and improve the experiences of women from diverse backgrounds and characteristics. The meeting also heard from Bénite Dibateza from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association about what lessons can be learnt from other Parliaments around the world who have set up their own Women’s Caucuses.
