Centenary Action was honoured to be invited to close the London Stock Exchange on 2nd July 2025, marking 97 years since the Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act 1928 — a defining moment in the UK’s democratic history.
The Market Close brought together politicians, campaigners, and business leaders to reflect on how far we’ve come, and how far we still have to go. The CEO of London Stock Exchange, Julia Hoggett, reminded us that sometimes we need to roar. Sarah Dyke MP emphasised that education is key to engaging more women in politics and Carolyn Harris MP shared how she started the conversation about menopause in Parliament. Shraddha Kaul highlighted the importance of intersectional equity and greater social mobility. Catherine Park reminded us that tech needs input from all, globally. Girlguiding Advocate Charlotte shared her vision for a future where girls can simply be—without fear, in the classroom and beyond. Tina Backhouse reminded us that in Pharma, women’s health is still considered niche. Erika Brodnock MBE called on us to become the leaders we wish we had. And Mary Macleod reminded us of the value of women in politics—and the achievements she made as an MP, even if they didn’t make the news.
The event was organised by Centenary Action Business Link who bring together women in business and politics to foster connections and create change.
