Commemorative photo of women MPs with sashes

On Wednesday 2nd July 2025 Centenary Action and the APPG Women in Parliament marked 97 years since women won the right to vote on the same terms as men by organising a commemorative photocall in Parliament.

In a striking show of cross-party unity, women MPs gathered wearing bespoke suffragette sashes—each one handmade by a team of Welsh seamstresses at Re:Make Newport and embroidered with their unique number in the history of women elected to Parliament.

It was a moving reminder of how far we’ve come—and how far we still have to go to achieve a gender-equal Parliament.

The photo was taken the day after our cross-party panel event in Parliament, where MPs and campaigners came together to reflect on progress and discuss what needs to happen to reach equal representation by 2028—the centenary of equal franchise.
