On Wednesday 5th November our Steering Group member Sarabajaya Kumar gave evidence to the House of Commons Procedure Committee inquiry into call lists, urging MPs to ensure that parliamentary procedures support equal participation for all.
Dr Kumar, a leading disability activist and academic, highlighted how call lists could make Westminster more predictable, transparent, and inclusive, helping MPs manage their time effectively and enabling those with caring responsibilities, disabilities, or health conditions to contribute fully.
As Dr Kumar told the Committee: “This is our Parliament, this is our House, and we should all be represented.”
Centenary Action’s key recommendations:
– Pilot and evaluate call lists to assess their impact on participation.
– Draw on international best practice to modernise parliamentary procedure.
– Review all processes to ensure they promote equal participation.
